Former MLB Star Nelson Cruz Speaks Out After Sister Nelsy Dies in Dominican Republic Nightclub Collapse
Nelsy Cruz, the governor of the northwestern Dominican Republic province of Montecristi and sister of former Major League Baseball star Nelson Cruz, died in the deadly roof collapse at the local Jet Set nightclub, her brother confirmed in a social media post. At least 44 people died in the collapse in the early morning of Tuesday, April 8, and more than 150 were injured, according to the BBC, The Guardian, and the Associated Press.
