In January 2025, the singer announced that she had achieved her "weight release goal," sharing a picture that showed she had lowered her body mass index (BMI) by 10.5 and lost 16% of her body fat since January 2023.

During an April 2025 appearance on On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Lizzo said that her "intentional weight release journey" had taken about a year and a half.

The performer, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was recently featured on the cover of Women's Health. In her cover story, Lizzo candidly opens up about her experience working on her physical health. She shared that she had been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease, which occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus and causes heartburn, so she only eats before 5 p.m. each night.

She also shared on the Just Trish podcast in June that she briefly used Ozempic.

"I've tried everything," she revealed. "It's just the science, for me, calories in vs. calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food. It makes you feel full. So, if you can just do that on your own and get mind-over-matter, it's the same."

Speaking during a March 2024 interview with The New York Times, Lizzo also shared that her idea of body positivity had "evolved into body neutrality" over the course of her weight loss journey.

"I'm not going to lie and say I love my body every day," the singer said at the time. "The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day. There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don't feel completely positive."
