Iconic Alaskan glacier's incredible secret is revealed... but we'll never get to see it
An explorer's hunch has been spectacularly vindicated nearly a century later by a team of scientists determined to uncover the truth in the savage and inhospitable mountains of Alaska. The Ruth Glacier sweeps down from the tallest mountain in North America carrying megatons of compacted ice between the vast granite ridges of the Denali National Park. Explorer Bradford Washburn and bush pilot Don Sheldon were among the first to see it when they flew over the area in 1937.
